Universal Credit: help to claim
Get help applying for Universal Credit
Our Help to Claim service can support you in the early stages of your Universal Credit claim, from setting up an email address, starting the application, and through to your first payment.
Help to Claim is free, independent and confidential. Our trained advisers can help with things like how to gather evidence for your application, how to prepare for your work coach appointment and how to apply for additional financial support.
Help to claim staff will check that you should be claiming Universal Credit, and will assess you for any support needs. You will then be helped or referred to your nearest Citizens Advice or an outreach location (such as a local Jobcentre) for an appointment if necessary. We can also help you to access ‘non-digital’ phone or home visit support from the Jobcentre.

Help to claim booklet
We have put together a PDF booklet to help people understand what information they need to have ready to make a Universal Credit claim and about how claiming Universal Credit works. This is best used as a printed booklet (printed landscape, on both sides of the paper – flipped on the short edge).
